A small first step into a growing community
A Minga brings students and parents together to work on an aspect of their gardens and spend time with one another. Our second-Saturday gatherings are an invitation to get to know Raíces del Canal through shared work, conversation, and community.
You do not need to know us already to introduce yourself. Reach out, tell us a little about your family, and ask about joining an upcoming gathering. The team can share the time, meeting point, and what to bring before you come.
Care for the gardens. Connect with the people.
The work of a Minga changes with what the gardens need. Students and parents contribute side by side, connecting with the land and with the people who share their neighborhood.
Past gatherings have also made space for drum circles, cultural learning, and opportunities for parents and students to speak and listen. The photos below show those previous experiences; activities can vary from month to month.
A rhythm you can return to
Mingas happen every second Saturday of the month in the Canal. The monthly dates below update automatically. Please confirm each gathering’s time and meeting point directly with Raíces del Canal before attending.

Meet the community.
This community film introduces Raíces del Canal. It is a look at our work, rather than a recap of a particular Minga.
