The Canal is home to a vibrant community of Latino immigrant families. At Raíces del Canal, we work alongside youth and families to strengthen our connection to the land, our cultural roots, and one another.
More than gardens
Young people and families transform empty and forgotten spaces into gardens filled with food, flowers, and pollinators. These shared spaces offer opportunities to learn, care for the land, and build a sense of belonging.
Our vision is a thriving Garden District where every family has access to fresh food, beautiful green spaces, and real opportunities to lead.
Four connected areas of work
Our work brings together environmental justice, community power building, cultural connection, and mental health and wellbeing. Together, these areas support young people as they grow into caretakers and leaders in their community.
Grow the future with us
There is a place for students, families, volunteers, and supporters in this work. Explore our gallery, learn about upcoming events, or visit Get Involved to connect with the Raíces del Canal team.
